Dental Bridges

Dental bridges are used to replace missing teeth by “bridging” the gap between teeth. A dental bridge contains prosthetic teeth that are secured to neighboring teeth using dental crowns or dental implants. Dental bridges provide a natural looking, comfortable and economical replacement option for missing teeth.

Modern bridgework is designed to be indistinguishable from natural teeth and made using fine ceramic material. The process for replacing missing teeth with a dental bridge takes place over multiple visits. The first visit includes a comprehensive evaluation, where the entire oral cavity is examined including the teeth, mouth, jaw joints and muscles.

Our dentists will take diagnostic x-rays, digital photographs and impressions to prepare a personalized treatment plan and show you the proposed results. You will receive a temporary dental bridge, made of plastic, while your permanent dental bridge is being fabricated.

The permanent dental bridge is made by expert ceramists at a dental laboratory under the specific instruction of our dentists. The permanent dental bridge will be secured in place in our office by one of our highly qualified dentists. Any minor adjustments to the fit or shade of your dental bridge can be made in our office. Special instructions to care for your dental bridge will be reviewed on this final visit as well.

Besides cosmetic concerns, there are a number of reasons to replace missing teeth. Once a tooth is lost, the bone and tissue surrounding the missing tooth begins to deteriorate. As the deterioration worsens, replacement options become difficult and expensive. Missing teeth can also lead to complex functional and health problems such as TMJ disorders, speech impediments and gum disease.

Dental implants provide an alternative to bridgework. A dental implant is a permanent solution to tooth loss, where an artificial root is placed in the bone and restored with a dental crown. Dental implants require a higher level of investment in both time and money.
