Dental implants are used to replace missing teeth. They can be used to replace a single tooth, used to replace several teeth, or used to support a restoration that replaces all of a patient’s missing teeth.
A dental implant is an artificial tooth root. This tiny post, typically made of titanium, is integrated into the bone for a secure and permanent fit. A restoration, either a dental crown, dental bridge or denture, is secured to the post to replace the missing tooth.
Careful planning must go into replacing teeth with dental implants. This procedure requires the participation of an oral surgeon who will place the implant, a dental lab where the restoration will be fabricated and the dentist who oversees the entire procedure and plans all of the details.
Our dentists will perform a comprehensive evaluation to determine if you are a candidate for dental implants. Next, using 2-D and 3-D imaging, our dentists will plan exactly where the dental implant will be placed as well as the size, shape and details of the restoration.
The process for receiving a dental implant takes place over several months. Once the implant is placed by the oral surgeon, it takes about 3 – 6 months to heal and integrate with the bone. Once the dental implant has healed, our dentist will try the fit and seat of the restoration to ensure natural looking, comfortable results.
Our office is equipped with an in office porcelain laboratory so we can make adjustments to the color and stain of the ceramic restorations for a virtually invisible finish.
